My experiences have been fairly positive. I had one transaction that dragged on for several days more than I wanted. I generally leave items for pickup on my front porch and I greatly dislike creating the impression to random passers by that anything sitting on my porch is available for the taking. So I don't tend to put myself in the position of sitting at home waiting for someone to drop by. (The items that I'm not comfortable leaving on the porch also tend to be high enough value that if taker #1 doesn't show up on schedule, I have takers #2-10 waiting in the wings and eager to oblige.) I had one case where the picker-uppers only took part of what I'd left for them (but possibly determined that the other items weren't suitable for their purposes. But mostly I haven't had problems. For me, the worst part is that completely unwarranted sense of guilt I feel at having to disappoint all the folks who weren't first in line. But I get over it. And I really get a charge out of turning my "argh, how do I get rid of this thing?" into someone else's "ohmighod you've saved me!"
