Not Again!

What is this? Our regular "every three years HRJ gets burglarized" schedule? This time, in addition to the laptop, they took the safe (which they appear to have wheeled off inside the recycling garbage can, which is also missing) and the digital camera. I say "they" because the safe is pretty darn heavy -- probably around 100 pounds -- and there aren't any drag marks to the door. They came in through a window and carted things off through the back door. Interestingly, they seem to have squeezed the job in between when the downstairs tenant went to bed at 8am and when the contractor showed up around noon. So I'm sitting here making inventories and not wanting to rearrange things before the police show up. (Having called them an hour and a half ago, I'm not feeling patient. But hey, it's only a burglary -- not like it's a murder or anything important.) Rant. Rant. Rant.

The desktop and all its peripherals are cable-locked to the desk. The backup is hidden. The safe was ... unobtrusive (I thought).

Oh, by the way, if you ever get to wondering where your bed-lifts are, you left them at my place.

As it happens, I just read your text message about the bed-lifts on my phone this afternoon. Happily, I have two pair so if I need bed-lifts before I see you next I won't be out of luck. Hadn't even noticed I had forgotten them (probably because, other than laundry, the bag has not been unpacked...)

Sorry to read this. When I got robbed as a kid, back in Las Vegas, it was the creepy feeling of violation that lasted long after the fury of being ripped-off faded. When we got robbed in Lafayette, it was more like a wake-up call. Getting robbed always sucks. I hope they got frustrated by the safe and left it somewhere where the cops can find it.
