My Fi is Re'ed

I signed the papers for the refinance today. Final results: 4.85% (down from 6%), a monthly savings of $450, and the out-of-pocket closing costs ended up being about $1000 less than previously estimated. I have no complaints. Oh, and I can probably use the appraisal as leverage to get my property taxes cut, too, since they're currently set based on the original mortgage's appraisal, when the property was at peak value. So now I can figure out what my budget is for redecorating the guest bedroom and get to work.

I've been having fun this evening putting together a little "lady in waiting kit" for my time on [livejournal.com profile] duchessletitia's court. I've left out several of the items on the recommended "How to Serve on Court" list, but I have reasonable confidence that I will be ready to pull rabbits out of hats as necessary.

Yeah, it's all the rage in the Bay Area these days. I need to do some research on what sort of documentation package I need to put together for it -- i.e., whether the appraisal document for the refi will be enough. Since the refi appraisal is about 2/3 the appraised value the current taxes are based on, I could be saving a couple thousand a year. Mind you, I approve of the sorts of things that my property taxes pay for, and I have no problem with paying my share -- I just want to adjust the understanding of "my share".
