I was an alt.folklore.urban denizen before the Mikkelsons turned into snopes, and just about every one of those stories came up and were thoroughly debunked. Yes, people name kids weird stuff--and it's not limited to any one race or culture.

Now, aptonyms (where someone's name has something to do with their profession or life, such as my former dentist, Dr. Toothman-and both his sons were dentists, too)--those are funny.
