Many Ikea tables come with square legs. The legs we just took off of our kitchen table (because we replaced them with the frame from a raise-lower desk) have a square profile, but they taper towards the bottom, and gradually become round. However, rather than screwing to the tabletop through a bolt located on the very top they bolt from the side (way up high) through a metal plate that attaches across the corners of under table support pieces. I am so not explaining that well. Suffice it to say, it was very easy to remove them, so if you aren't happy with the solution you have come up with, this is another option.
