About the same place I was a month ago

Got the laptop back today -- they replaced the motherboard (again?) but didn't have to touch the hard drive this time. So I’m back to getting the files rebuilt and updated and whatnot. It's been almost a full month since it first crapped out. Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] xrian and I drove down to Tres Pinos near Hollister for the Darkwood A&S event. It wasn't anywhere near as hot as the weather web sites predicted, which was nice. Lots of trees and a good breeze. My "decorative gathering" class went fairly well -- I had more students than I usually prefer for a hands-on class, but there was a good mix of "just looking", "quick study", and "need help" types, so it worked. Just for fun, today I started an other sample piece but on relatively fine linen and with the design counted rather than marked on. It actually went fairly easily (as long as I had my glasses off and could get close up). I may put pictures up later. We stayed for the potluck dinner (and I got tapped to help judge the Bard of the Oaks competition, which was during dinner), so we didn't get back to my place until after 11pm. It was an oddly mixed-purpose day -- it turns out the reason the SCA didn't have our usual location in the Tres Pinos fairgrounds was that the Bluegrass Festival was in that area … and a whole bunch of my relatives were attending the festival (including the cousin and cousin-in-law who live in Hollister). So [livejournal.com profile] cryptocosm and I got hijacked for a picnic lunch in neutral territory between the two events. Slept in a bit this morning (although not as late as I would have if the phone hadn't rung -- the land line that I can't really get to before the machine kicks in, but no message so I assume it was a wrong number). Made fresh scones from xrian and me for breakfast then turned on the World Cup final after she left. Nice finish, with a few oddities. After all the ragging on Italy's inability to win a penalty kick finish, I guess it counts as a little bit better than "failure to screw up". I will go to sleep early tonight. I will, I will.
