I believe you could have an effective comedic effect by having a small placeholder text that repeats itself with small variations, in the place of the travelogue pages. "Our heroines proceeded to discover the delights of this city, including the churches, the public squares, the poignant vistas ..." rather like the way you're doing in these notes. But I don't know if you're going to be wanting a comedic refrain in your version.
