Weather jinx?

Ok, here's hoping I don't jinx the weather for this weekend, but it looks like coronation will actually be a pleasant temperature. That'd be a nice change from the last couple camping events. Mom's back home from the hospital. They're keeping her on the thalidomide (which is a good thing) but mixing in some blood thinners.

Lately I've been thinking that one of these years I'd like to take a real vacation. Not a "going to an event/convention/conference/family-holiday" vacation; not a "spend some time working on a project" vacation; but a REAL "go off to some picturesque spot and just hang out with no purpose" vacation. Sigh. Maybe in three years when my vacation allotment gets increased.

Oh, and: Café review -- I've been to the Doyle St. Café before -- although only once or twice, which is odd since it's just a few blocks away. I think that when I went before I got a vibe that it wasn't a "hang out with the laptop" sort of place, which is what I mainly look for in a weekend brunch place. But when I went last weekend the vibe was more relaxed and I didn't feel like I was table-hogging as I lingered over the mocha and e-mail. I had one of the egg specials -- stuff layered onto an English muffin and smothered with Hollandaise sauce. Very satisfactory. The mocha wasn't too syrupy either. In fact, the only real complaint I have is that there's nowhere on the entire block to lock a bicycle to. I settled for a bench, but felt guilty about blocking half the seat thereby. I mean, I could always walk, but I like having the option to run errands afterwards and it's a bit overkill to drive there!

I've been checking out the local entries in a review site and have a short list of places to check out in the next month or so. I think the next one will be "Venus" on Shattuck in downtown Berkeley. Not this weekend, of course, but maybe over Labor Day weekend.
