I don't remember whether I actually read the book when I was a child or whether I only found it as an adult. Probably the former, because I read my way from one end of the library to the other. But I really got hooked on it as a fluffy comfort-read when I was in grad school. (That, and vast quantities of Georgette Heyer, which I would use to de-tox after grading term papers.)
