I hope you already know that you are someone I value, and not just for the serious content you provide (like really amazing books and interesting blog posts on your research), but also for your ability to write personal posts (like this one), that I like to read, because the give me the feeling that you are someone I "know" even though our overlap of being in the same place at the same time is a very small percentage of our lives. So thank you, thank you for putting yourself out there and making the content, and replying on those (rare) occasions wherein I reach out, and for caring enough to offer your opinion, even when you know it disagrees with my viewpoint, and even for creating a social space where I am "meeting" other interesting people. You are liked, and appreciated. I hope your birthday provided joy as well as introspection (and it was fun to read your analysis of the lyrics, I hadn't really ever taken the time to think about how much cultural expectations on gender roles are coded into that song--no doubt a hold over from having learned it really young). May your new year bring you much personal joy, whatever it brings the world as a whole. Hugs! (if you want them)
