I don't know if you've tried LibraryThing, which is pretty good about equating the same book in different people's collections, while maintaining distinguishing information about media and edition. I'm not sure if its per-work pages would suit your purposes for a "universal book link". For example, here's Daughter of Mystery, which includes links to the same book on major book sites such as Amazon, Abebooks, Audible, Gutenberg, Google Books, etc. as well as reviews and links to the publisher and author, and a sample of LibraryThing users who own the book.
