Coulda been worse

So when your airplane is coming in over the end of the runway at O'Hare, and you're about 20 ft off the ground, and then suddenly the pilot guns the jets and pulls up at about a 45-degree ascent, it is a reasonable conclusion that you have just missed having A Really Bad Air Day. Turns out some other plane was crossing the runway we were about to land on.

After that, it's hard to get excited about having spent 2 hours on the tarmac in Salt Lake City waiting for permission to take off, discovering that my rental car company shuts down for the night at 10 pm (something they neglected to mention when I reserved the car), and finally making it in to Kalamazoo at 5:30 am.

obscure question

what's your favorite color or color combo?

My "decorating colors" (for my house) are forest green, old rose (w/burgundy for highlights), and silver gray. (Although with the temporary disappearance of forest green from the commercial decorating market, I've substituted sage green, which forms a nice parallel with the rose/burgundy pairing.)

My favorite colors for wearing (because they flatter me) are anything in the red-to-purple range, especially plums and burgundys. (Although I'm trying to branch out and then note which colors get compliments.)

Yay! for the awesome pilot.

Yeah, I've never previously felt it was necessary or appropriate -- on disembarking a plane -- to thank the pilot for not smearing me all over the landscape. He took it in good humor.

I wondered if you had said something; seems like it would be your style. I know I would have!

That scene from Top Gun keeps running through my mind: "Call the Ball! Call the ball!"

Phew! You had a good pilot.
Thank God you made it intact!

Oops, that last was from me. I was so startled by your entry that i forgot to login!

Horray for airplanes that can take 45 degree ascents! (I'm glad it all came out fine.)

Have fun in Kalamazoo. Don't buy too many books. :)

There's no such thing as too many books!!

just missed having A Really Bad Air Day

Some things are better enjoyed in the negative.

Yay for the pilot!

They say any landing you walk away from is a good landing...did they charge you extra for the additional excitement factor? ; )

Glad it all turned out okay!

I'm very glad you had a good pilot in a plane that could make the sudden change. Please have the rest of your Kalamazoo trip to be boring by comparison.
