Just to keep you entertained

I fear I must recalibrate my approach to the geek-off contest. Today I seem to have made the mistake of submitting an entry (my made-from-the-ground-up linen lace doily) that was, in fact, "too cool" to beat out the co-workers collection of replica light sabers. While my entry made a strong first impression, the light sabers seem to have pulled ahead on sheer nerditude. We did, however, get a judgement on yesterday's match-up and I was adjudged the winner, so I'm 2-for-1 at the moment. I have A Plan for tomorrow, but I'm still strategizing for the big wrap-up on Friday. The readers have made some excellent suggestions, but most -- alas -- are likely to slip into the "too cool to be truly geeky" category.

Now, what I wanted to dig up for today's entry was the roll of computer punch-tape (yes, tape, not cards) bearing the tic-tac-toe program I wrote in high school. (I no longer remember how many attempts I had to make before typing the entire program all the way through error free on a single tape.) I thought it was in a box in the attic, but having pulled down the two boxes with assorted keepsakes and archives, I can't find it anywhere. This suggests that I must have actually thrown it away at some point. On the other hand, I've been meaning to get those boxes down and go through them as part of the "life cleaning" project.

The daffodil count is up to six. I got in a couple hours of yard work (mostly weeding) on Saturday and unless I'm rained out (please please please) I'll probably manage a similar session this coming weekend.

The tic tac toe game should definitely win for you.

I am so enjoying the geek-fest. In fact, I told my son about it, and he's interested too, although he thinks a full Pokemon collection might beat out some of the other entries. :-)

Out of curiosity, did the hillock ever come back?

Okay, that was a cheap attempt at being pertinent. Hi Heather! A very long time ago I was one of the monkeys who worked at Marion's magazine, and you would occasionally spout Welsh at me in an attempt to get me out of the room.

I like to think I am less annoying now so as to not warrant such measures, but I like to think a lot of things.

Anyway. Hi. And bye, now.

Hi! Whatcha been doing with yourself? (And I would never deliberately misuse Welsh as a repellant force. Although I do recall one SCA bardic circle where I just happened to be saying, "And now I shall recite from medieval Welsh literature ...." just as an obnoxious duke was walking up, and it did seem to have a satisfyingly repellant effect.)

Oh, you know. Went to work for a game company as a programmer, then a webmaster, then a writer/designer. Occasionally write stories for anthologies. Bought a house. Met a guy. Working on a black belt in a passive-aggressive martial art. Work on unpublished novels when the well fills up enough to let me. You know, the usual.

I'm glad to see you still about. I am especially thrilled that someone else is experimenting with baking for one. You could make a cookbook, you could.
