Five Things Make a Post

1. Apparently I have been walking around all day with a utility knife in my back pocket (from cutting the carpeting into bin-sized pieces yesterday evening). Good thing I wasn't trying to fly anywhere.

2. Today I got as late as 9:30 before hitting the wall; clearly I must be recovered from the exertions of painting. But it's a good thing that I only have a couple more to-do items for A&S this weekend because I keep not fitting them in.

3. It was a cosmic certainty that no sooner had I commenced on the guest room project than I encountered more potential houseguests than I normally see in a quarter-year. With luck, at least the floor will be complete by the time the parents are scheduled to arrive (assuming the logistics on their trip work out, which isn't yet certain), so that the furniture and whatnot can be moved back in making the couch accessible. (It's unlikely that the wall-bed will be installed by then.)

4. Squirrel!

5. Haagen Dazs 5 is an excellent concept in ice cream. The name of this particular line refers to the number of ingredients in each flavor: milk, cream, sugar, eggs, and the named flavor ingredient (in the case of the ice cream currently sitting on top of my cherry pie, coffee).

I am coming over to your house for dessert.

love coffee ice-cream, love cherry pie, but together? really?

It was a whim.

How do they keep the texture creamy without agar or carageenan? In my experience, even with eggs the texture gets icy after a week or two.

Well, in my experience, Breyers and Turkey Hill and other Philadelphia-style ice creams manage to hold texture for up to 3 weeks... and those don't even have eggs; just milk, cream, sugar, and the appropriate flavoring agents.

I think it has to do with the fat content and also the amount of air that's churned into the mixture... or something. I might be misremembering. I really need a copy of McGee.

I doubt it will stay in my freezer more than a week or two, but I have no idea what the answer is for pre-purchase storage time.

As one who as asked if it is possible to come stay one night, I can assure you, I don't need a guest room, a dry patch of floor would do me just fine. If it is an option for me to stay Thursday before Crown, please let me know ASAP (I haven't see a reply to my message, if you sent one). If not, please let me know that too so I can ask on SCA West--[livejournal.com profile] duke_flieg says he can drive me to Crown, but only if I can find some place to stay in Berkeley as he won't have time to go elsewhere that morning.

Hmm, I replied to the message yesterday via the Phone, but it would have gone to your LJ message box. The message was as above: the new bed won't have arrived and the convertible sofa is in accessible due to to furniture rearrangements. Now if a spot of carpeting is sufficient, then sure -- although it's completely out of line with my notions of hospitality.

Yes, thank you, a patch of carpet will be lovely! I don't need hospitality as such, just to be conveniently located. Though the potential to actually spend a bit of time visiting with you in person does have a certain appeal...

if you could send me an e-mail to kareina(at)inthe.sca.org with details of your address and what train station I'd want to disembark at to find it, and a time of day after which it is ok to arrive, I'd appreciate it, thanks! (e-mail means it gets downloaded, so I won't need web access to see it again later...)
