Odds and Ends

I had this whole list of tasks to do yesterday and accomplished about half of them. I'd discovered that the wedding present I bought (for Saturday's wedding) went on sale for about 1/3 off the day after I bought it, and the store was willing to give me retroactive credit, but I had to bring the receipt in to get it. So since I was heading out to Walnut Creek for that anyway, I continued up to Frye's in Concord to see what they had in the way of rice cookers, since mine had bitten the big one and I've come to the conclusion that the only rational way to cook whole grains is with an appliance that will not allow them to burn no matter how hard you try. But I wanted something designed for smaller batches than those intended to feed an entire extended family, and maybe one with more settings than "cook" and "don't cook". I managed to find a medium-priced model that is designed for about 3 cups of rice plus steamer basket on top and that has a time-delay feature. So in theory I could set up the cooker in the morning and have cooked grains ready for me right when I want dinner. (In reality, this isn't as big a deal as it might be, since the rice will cook in about the same amount of time as it takes to get my pre-dinner chores done.)
I cleared the clothes out of the cedar chest and moved it to the guest bedroom where at least it doesn't look like it's sitting out in the middle of things in the way. Since I was using it to store woolens and fur-lined costumes, I'll want to come up with some other bug-discouraging storage system for them -- but I figured that if I continued it with that purpose in a location that wasn't my bedroom, those clothes would never get worn again. Instead I need to go through the linen closet and I'll be moving all the full-size linens into the cedar chest (since that's now the only full-size bed in the house -- the others are all queens), and maybe spare pillows or blankets or the like. The other uncompleted part of that task is to identify and get rid of all the twin-sized bed linens, since I haven't owned a twin-size mattress since I was in college. And the last item I had on the theoretical to-do list for yesterday was to start the go-through of my bedroom closet. Now added to my to-do list for the week is to vacuum out the wall register and turn the pilot light on. It's definitely turned cold enough.
But, hey, at least I posted the blind date listing and have received about five responses so far. One of them is definitely a no-go, simply based on the types of information she thought it was important for me to know about her, but it looks like I'll have to come up with some other activities besides the ballet for this round because there are several strong candidates. At least so far I don't seem to have attracted any real creeps.
