I'm not sure how much of my impression was due to seeing Casanova the day after 12th night when Commedia was on my mind, but it really struck me that the movie's plot was a classic Commedia scenario. You've got your romantic polygons. You've got your disguises and impersonations. You've got your scheming fathers trying to marry off manipulative ingenues. You've got your comic servant. You've got your incredibly complex and fast-moving resolution ending up with some unlikely pairings-off.

Since I didn't go into the movie expecting a historic documentary, I enjoyed it without any qualms or regrets. Lush visuals. Several amusing plot twists, some of which you may anticipate and some of which -- if you're lucky and nobody has fed you spoilers -- you won't. I definitely recommend it for a pleasant romp.

I've wanted to see that movie ever since I saw the trailer. Thanks for the review. Realistically, I'll probably will wind up seeing it on DVD, though.

I need a movie to go to while Duncan and his date are seeing something else on Saturday. Thanks for the review -- if this fits the timeslot, this may be it!

Been thinking about that film. I need to wait for a window of opportunity, and find out if I should wait until the sweetie comes home.

Still, good to know that it's as tounge-in-cheek as it is presented.
