Table done

I put the new dining room table together last night.
look here )

I had more trouble with the table than any other IKEA project I've done. My consultation with the IKEA help desk (mentioned previously) was unsatisfactory, although they tried to be helpful. The take-home message was, "That's the way it was designed; make it work." So I drilled out the holes in the hinges a smidge, and with the help of a dozen extra screws cadged from the help desk lady, I got the hardware all installed. (In the end, I destroyed 6 of the screws, including the 2 I did in on the first day.) The tool cabinets still haven't been stacked -- I need to arrange for a couple more muscular people to help me on that bit. Next stop, the flooring stores. The next chain of projects is: move all items from living room into spare bedroom (except for couches, which go to dump); re-do floor (details omitted); buy and install shelving units for entertainment/sewing center; move intended contents of shelving units into them. That's the basic chain -- subsequent independent projects include: build and install wall-o-bookshelves in living room and move books around; obtain new sofabed and recliner for living room; decide on desired computer desk configuration and implement.

Oh, and a guy from McLaughlin Coffee called me this morning to say thanks. He noted that they had a review session this morning about the proper precautions for avoiding spontaneous combustion of sacks of coffee husks.
