It's a holiday from work. Round about noon I'll be heading off for my ski weekend (first time cross-country) but in the mean time I'm looking for something to putter with around the house. The computer desk is too big to tackle. I suppose I'll end up sorting through the stack of paper currently occupying the dining room table, since it's officially "in process" and therefore (by the rules of the game) must be completed rather than being stashed in some as-yet-untidied spot. It's one of those stacks of paper that evolved as a multi-year compendium of "I have no idea what to do with this at the moment, but I don't want to throw it out." Handouts from Kalamazoo. My annotated copy of the script for the Culhwch & Olwen quest. A magnetic poetry sonnet composed at Con José. Several pages of a novel I'm still not sure I want to write. (It evolved out of some slightly fan-ficcish daydreams and I'm not entirely sure the serial numbers can be completely erased.) Old faded dot-matrix printouts of mailing list posts with references to books I want to track down. Notes that
scotica and I put together for a web page for Scadians entitled "So You Wanna Be a Celt?" Assorted notes and photocopies of leads on garments to be added to the surviving medieval garments database. Lecture notes and handouts for a presentation to
xrian's Ren Faire guild on Elizabethan images of and attitudes towards the Welsh. Handouts and notes from an SCA class I gave on adapting medieval Welsh legal texts for SCA award scrolls. Handouts and notes from an SCA class I gave on cloth socks from surviving examples.
Most of them have obvious places to go in the over-stuffed filing cabinets, which will do for the moment. Tackling the file cabinet contents is a task for another day ... uh, month. But sorting it all out into appropriate files is sufficiently put away for the moment. That should keep me productively busy until it's time to go skiing.
