My itinerary for the trip next week is firming up nicely. I still need to work out arrangements with two of my contacts (one for an errand ... which will give me a chance to take a ferry trip across Puget Sound, and one for a visit), but I'm pretty close to knowing where I'm going to sleep every night. I'll do my best to blog the trip as it unfolds. The abovementioned errand is to take my SCA Order of the Laurel scroll (which was recently completed by [livejournal.com profile] ermine_rat) to get it signed by the king who gave me the award. It's not so much that having it signed by the actual granting royalty is enormously important to me, but since it turned out to be possible, and since it fit in with my road trip nicely, it seemed like a fun adventure to add to the trip. I picked up the scroll tonight and packed it away in an art case, along with an extra scrap of vellum for practice. (I'll be bringing pens and ink as well -- I'm not going to assume that everyone has them lying around!) I've decided I'm definitely taking the bicycle on the trip. With just me in the car, I can carry it inside the back of the wagon (with the seats flattened down) so it won't mess up my mileage with wind resistance. So far, I have rides planned at Crater Lake and in Portland at the waterfront park. I figure if I get some riding in on at least two more occasions, I won't feel like I've slacked off on the exercise too badly. Besides which, the ride at Crater Lake should be a blast. I have no intention of doing the full rim ride -- just an out-and-back from Rim Village. Given that my usual everyday bicycling doesn't involve any sort of hills -- unless you count the pedestrian overpass over the freeway -- I don't have a good sense of what my reasonable limits are for serious road riding.

Had a great visit from the parents this past weekend. Both local brothers dropped by for most of the weekend and Saturday an assortment of cousins showed up for dinner and schmoozing. My new sofa bed got it's first use. There were various comments on the new paint scheme.
