Went to Dickens Fair yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] scotica, [livejournal.com profile] klwilliams, and [livejournal.com profile] learnteach (there was also supposed to be a co-worker of klwilliams, but we never ended up connecting). It was fun being a plain old tourist and not attempting to dress up, although if I start going regularly I'd want something appropriate to wear. I have a dress from back the last time I went to Dickens Fair maybe 15 years ago, but like everything else it doesn't fit. The last time I went was back when they were holding it at one of the piers in downtown SF (and I remember it was pretty much unheated and FREEZING). The Cow Palace location works very well for layout -- there was a real sense of a town with hidden nooks and crannies. Ran into [livejournal.com profile] staffordcastle who (in character) solicited donations for Egyptian excavations, and several other people I ought to have recognized, but was having trouble doing the context thing.

From there it was off to [livejournal.com profile] j_i_m_r's hubby's 50th birthday party. The food was, of course, to die for. I love having foodie friends. Good schmoozing and celebration.

Originally I was thinking of calling around to various of my CL contacts and seeing if anyone was up for a movie today, but when I got up I decided that what I really really wanted to do today was finalize the Xmas shopping list and make the push to finish up the shopping. Mission accomplished. I even had a couple of serious shopping triumphs. And I actually got my act together to write a letter to go with the holiday cards yesterday, so if I put in some serious envelope-addressing time this evening, I can get the cards out tomorrow as well.
