June Crown
Jun. 21st, 2009 09:40 pmAs predicted, a lovely little laid-back event. I think I've gotten my wish in having kingdom event last longer on Sundays (like in the Good Old Days) because I noticed that it was 4:30 when I left site. (Some of which was helping
cryptocosm take down and pack the heraldic consultation tent.) As many others have noted,
vittoriosa is the West Kingdom's newest Laurel (in a surprise ceremony) which makes me enormously happy. (My own little contribution to the ceremony was serendipitous: I have a standing offer to provide foliage from my laurel tree for wreaths, although few have taken me up on it. But I'd brought a few branches for
joycebre to use in garnishing her feast, so I was able to snag back the leftovers and, with the loan of Rosewitha's bag of wreath-making gear, turn out a wreath to use in the ceremony. Oh, and I got to be a spokesperson too. It was fun.)
The butlering stint at
joycebre's feast* was fun, too -- although what with only being responsible for the high table and having an assistant on hand, there was a lot of simply standing around. If this starts to be a regular gig for me, I'm going to have to do a bunch more research on medieval butlering. (And start putting together my own paraphernalia.) Twice doesn't exactly make a trend, but research projects have been started by far less impetus than this.
*Yes, I know it wasn't technically "her" feast, but as I explained to the hosts, I volunteered to help because she asked for help -- I really had no idea who else was involved at that point.
