Hot Piping Fried Arts
Jul. 25th, 2010 10:49 pmAttended the most wonderful arts campout weekend at Erinwood this weekend -- I'm so glad they conceived of the idea and invited me. If we could only have fixed that pesky excess sunshine ... but it's the Central Valley in summer, so what can you do? I decided to reduce my exertion-overhead by camping out of the car rather than putting up pavilions and whatnot (although I then felt guilty and pitched in helping other folks tear down and pack up, since I didn't have to do my own).
For my own class, I did the first public pitch of the "Period Picnic Project" -- on which more later. (Now that the idea has been debuted, I'm ready to begin introducing the idea more generally.) Memo to self: when doing a computer slide show outdoors in daylight, stick to B&W images. The colors were completely washed out, but the woodcuts came through ok. In retrospect, I should have done handouts rather than the slide show but I think it hadn't penetrated into my brain that when they said my class would be held in "the hall" this was referring to a large open-air sunshade, not an actual building.
