P on the WIP
Jan. 20th, 2011 11:53 pmI don't tend to blog much on writing progress except for the requisite IWriSloMo dailies in November, but I've been consoling myself during the house-packing process that it doesn't matter how many projects get packed away for how long because I can always fill my spare time with writing. And -- in fits and starts -- the momentum I got up in November has continued. I keep thinking about dropping in snippets of teaser-excerpts of the writing sessions like some of my friends do, but they're often awkwardly full of process stuff, like "insert name of the the aunt's boyfriend here when I've picked it" or "remember at some point to include a flashback to just _why_ Barbara's first combat instructor specialized in dirty street-fighting" -- only in much more cryptic form.
But ... at this point Barbara has gone on an expedition to purchase a possibly-forbidden book and in the process has noticed and confronted a tail who, surprisingly enough, was totally indifferent to the purchase of possibly-fobidden books but made a lot of cryptic references to his employer's interest in some debt that Barbara owed him. I've temporarily (and quite against all my rules for this project) skipped over the chronologically next scene when Margerit takes receipt of the book and finds out just how much there is to know about working the Mysteries beyond what her governess, Sister Petrunell, taught her. Oh, and she finally confesses to Barbara the the fellow student to turned her on to this book happens to be the sister of her deadly enemy, the late Baron's nephew. But she was just being helpful! Really she was! And the next bit which has been written is when Barbara confronts LeFevre, the late Baron's soliciter (and now Margerit's estate manager), and pressures him about just who this mysterious alleged-creditor might be and what sort of danger he might pose to those around her. LeFevre is contemplating what sort of clues he might ethically be allowed to give her in the mean time that won't endanger the Baron's master plan.
Events seem to be galloping along, so it's good that I've finally set up a detailed timeline. There's nearly a year to go in calendar-time for the events in Part 2, so I can't have everything happen quite yet.
