Two new species at the feeder in recent days, though not new to the yard. One of the scrub jays came by. (I'm guessing they'
re going to love the safflower seeds.) ANd this morning there was a mourning dove sitting on top of the hanging pole, looking a bit confused as to how to get at the seeds. (The perches are not really designed for larger birds.) The mourning doves may have been coming by for spilled seed on the ground already, which is out of my line of sight.
The thistle seed feeder has pretty much become the property of the goldfinch gang, while the larger feeder gets the house finches, grey titmouses, and chestnut-backed chickadees. I've realized I haven't seen any English sparrows. I wonder if my neighbornood isn't urban enough for them?
I had to refill the feeder for the first time since setting it up yesterday. The thistle seed was almost empty, though the other feeder was still about a quarter full.
