New Old Furniture
Apr. 4th, 2010 10:54 pmTook delivery today of a piece of family furniture. (My dad's move west has been the occasion for another round of disbursing various household items.) It's a drop-front secretary desk that belong to my maternal grandfather. I think someone in the family built it, but I need to double-check the specific history.

Now comes the fun of reorganizing the existing furniture to fit it in. I'd already decided that it would displace the current computer desk, and at the moment I think it's going to go in the same physical space as well (although oriented differently). The secretary will incorporate all the miscellaneous desk equipment, plus certain items currently stored in my art cabinet (e.g., the calligraphy equipment). But it can't handle being a computer hub, so I need something with a smaller footprint that will be specifically for the computer hardware alone. I think what I need to do is also dump the current art cabinet (which is much larger than what I need -- especially if a chunk of its contents go into the secretary). But that leaves me needing something to handle the remainder of the art supplies -- including flat storage for some items that don't currently have a good home in the first place. So I think the goal is to end up with the computer and art stuff in the space currently occupied by the art cabinet.
I suspect I'll be able to draw the fun out for half the summer before I get everything quite the way I want it. Yay, furniture shopping!
