It has occurred to me in the last week or so that not only has it been 4 months since my last period; it's been a couple of months now without any hot flashes. Is it really going to be this easy?

It would be nice if it is, good luck that you aren't plagued with any future symptoms of "change"...

12 months. That's the goalpost... but yeah, in my experience, if it's been "out of sight, out of mind" for an extended time, you're over the worst of it.

It could be. Some of us are just lucky in the way our bodies adapt. I don't recall suffering from any significant menopausal symptoms.

Susan stopped like that... but then about a year later began having hot flashes that only involved the sections of her that lie beneath her panties. It put a whole new meaning to "hot seat".

The funny story therewith is that she's a materials scientist, and having one of these hot flashes, she grabbed the air hose in her lab and was applying some localized air conditioning when her lab tech strolled in, thus embarrassing both of them.

I had mild hot flashes for a couple of years, then when I had the ovarian tumor and the resulting hysterectomy, OMG I've had the hot flashes of doom and destruction since. I'm sincerely hoping for this to come to some equilibrium Real Soon Now.

You know how king size electric blankets have dual controls, so you can heat one side but not the other? Susan runs hers on nuclear and I have the A/C running full blast to stay cool enough to sleep. I want to invent a dual control blanket that will EITHER heat or cool. I am certain I could sell it to couples including a hotflashing woman!

13 months is the gating factor. If you can make it past that, you should be good. At least for periods. I'm still having hot flashes.

Done is wonderful. I never had hot flashes but the night sweats are awful.

I, too hope it is that simple for you!

TMI alert - My periods basically stopped cold the month after I had the breast reduction/lumpectomy but I had occasional hot-flashes for close to a year beforehand, and horrible ones (aggravated by the various medications) for going on 5 years afterward. They seem to have finally stopped now, for which I am grateful.

Lucky!!! As much as I look forward to not dealing with this crap anymore, I look at my mom, who *still* has hot flashes at 78, and dread the future...

Yes, it could be that easy. But don't skimp on the routine checkups.

Now that I'm tapering off the HRT, I'm waking up too hot two or three times a night, but that seems to be about it for symptoms. Not sweaty, just too warm -- I push the covers away and go back to sleep.

sometimes -- there probably will be a couple more periods - 6-9 mos apart and then 1 yr or so - then none
hot flashes -- some people don't have many - I found the fatter foods caused them to appear more and increasing soy helped them disappear - you may get a couple more rounds of them in the next year or so, but yup you are probably one of the lucky ones.

I went from always being cold at night to now almost no covers. My body handles heat differently too, but that is a change not hot flashes.

Being a decade or more away from that phase, myself, I'll settle for just being happy for you and hoping it stays that easy.

Wow, it'd be nice if it's that easy! I'm not there yet, but it can't be that far off...

I've had a few "will it really be that easy" thoughts, and the answer, so far, has been "no". G'luck.
