The class materials for next Saturday's "harping for period dancing" class are all ready to go. Not bad for one evening's work, considering I had to input all the arrangements into the computer. It was the first time I'd seriously used the scan-recognition function of Smart Score. It certainly saves on hand-entering everything, although it still has a lot of catching up to do in comparison with OCR. I feel like a bit of a fraud with this class, since I'm not at all up to date on current scholarship regarding early harp techniquest and arrangements. This is a much more pragmatic approach, tackling both the specific needs of dance music and the hazards of playing harp in a pick-up ensemble situation. (I'm covering both solo and ensemble situations.)

Further on the teaching quest: on Saturday I was chatting with roswtr about what to do for Darkwood A&S and committed myself to doing something with the decorative gathering technique used in some of the albs I covered in the collegium class a week ago. I've been meaning to work that technique out for quite some time -- just needed the excuse. Next I need to come up with something for kingdom A&S campout.

Yesterday I gave myself an incentive to move on another step in the massive interior reorganization project. I picked up my dining room table and buffet from IKEA. Currently they're sitting unassembled in their boxes in the office (soon to be dining room). To get them into place I need to:

  • move the drafting table, art cabinet, and cookbooks out of the kitchen nook

  • do a thorough cleaning of the kitchen nook, including rewaxing the floor and possibly including painting the walls (although the rest of the kitchen doesn't make the re-do list until next summer, so I haven't even thought about colors)

  • move the stacking tool cabinets into the kitchen nook (including removing about half an inch of height from each stack, since this ceiling is slightly lower than the one they were originally built for), using this as an opportunity to triage the contents (since I want to move them empty)

This opens up the space where the buffet goes and enough space to set up the table (it's a gate-leg, so it doesn't need the full open area all the time). The drafting table and art cabinet are destined for the corner of the office where the old computer desk is currently and the old computer desk has no specific goal yet but can be swapped down into the 2nd bedroom (where two of the tool cabinets are stored currently), creating a net null furniture movement to some extent. The cookbooks are intended to move to the bookshelves next to the kitchen doorway where the art and textiles books are currently, but the book movements have to wait until the living room is done so that its new bookshelves can create a pull-effect to sort the library into its new configuration.

So you know how last Monday one of the things plaguing me was that $5000 had mysteriously disappeared from my checking account, but the credit union figured out what had happened to it and were going to fix it? Well, as of this morning they still hadn't fixed it and when I spent my lunch hour at the credit union, I discovered that nothing whatsoever had been done about it after last week's phone call. Turns out there was some computer glitch and my account wasn't the only one affected (which I suppose is some comfort). I now have a receipt showing the money back in my account, but I'm still a bit miffed. (The credit union folks did comment on how nice I was being about the whole thing.) And still no word from the lawyer in response to my request for clarification about certain aspects of his bill.
