The insurance has a $250 deductible. If I'm really really lucky, I won't need any coverage beyond that. The known costs are the towing/storage fee from the contract tow yard. (In theory, you can skip that if you're able to go pick up the vehicle yourself from where they find it, but they'd already towed it by the time the contacted me so that wasn't even a theoretical possibility.) The insurance rep says that the may authorize a "safety checkup" by a mechanic (which I'm planning to have done whether they pay for it or not). But if there really is no damage at all (and not just no damage that the police consider worth mentioning) ....
There's still the lingering question of how they got into the car and got it to start. There are non-destructive ways of managing that, but one suspects thieves aren't concerned with non-destructive options.
