I totally love the four planned novels in early 19th century Alpennia, but I keep yearning to work on some pre-modern story lines. I think I now have an idea for one, germinating off a passing reference to a woman named Tanfrit (probably a contemporary of the famous mystery scholar Gaudericus and therefore tentatively place around the 15th century) whose writings were seminal in the field but survive almost exclusively as quoted by other authors. In one of those flashes of "oh, of course, that's how it all connects together" I have determined that my 19th century characters will stumble across her long-hidden gravestone (in Book 3) which will offer some tantalizing but unsolvable clues to her life (such as that she was the first female professor at Rotenek University -- a fact that was later expunged entirely from the university's records). My 19th century characters will probably never learn the full story, but you, dear (future) readers, just might get that chance.

Man have I got to start writing faster.
