A bit of a semi-traditional laid-back 4th: barbeque on the deck with the downstairs tenant and then walked over to the Emeryville marina to watch several of the fireworks shows around the bay. Berkeley was quite visible, of course -- SF we could see the tops of. There were a few visible items from the direction of Richmond, but they may actually have been from the Hercules show, in which case they were partly the work of one of my co-workers at the Big B. And then, of course, the enthusiastic amateurs made the neighborhood sound a bit like Baghdad on a bad night. (I kept thinking that there should be some sort of "get out of town for the 4th" vacation program for recent war vets.)

I sat down and finally worked out the knack of the patterned-gathering technique I'm teaching on Saturday. Now I have to throw together a handout, make up kits, and maybe do another demo piece. Oh, and put together the outfit I"m doing a fitting on, also on Saturday. Good thing I'm daytripping. Tired now.

if you have questions, please feel free to ask - don't have that part up on my website yet - it will be huge when I get it finished - it was a 6 hour class (half techinique and half looking at period pictures and determining what we were really seeing happen with the fabric) and I've gathered more since -- Sabrina
