No one else in my circle is allowed to have any lumps, growths, lesions, or abnormalities. The quota is full up for the decade. (This directive brought to you by SK's teensy little breast lump.) And … on to other things. I don't think I've mentioned here that I'm taking a Biostatistics class through university extension starting next week. Every year, the Big B requires us to have a "developmental action plan" with certain professional growth goals, so since I've found myself incorporating statistics into investigations more and more, I pledged to take some sort of course on the topic. For me, the advanced types of statistics have been sort of like electricity was in physics class: I followed the basics, and I can use the formulas, but I feel like I'm using a black box. And I've never actually taken a formal statistics class. So since the company is picking up the tab, I'll be spending the next dozen Wednesday evenings getting a more formal grounding. Yesterday I biked up to campus on my lunch hour to pick up the textbook and found myself waxing nostalgic. The classes are actually in downtown SF, so I guess I'll be driving to work on Wednesdays so I can leave the car at a BART station. And tomorrow I'm painting the downstairs tenants bathroom. (We're working through the apartment one room at a time as she succeeds in getting the walls clear and available. After 15 or so years, the place needs re-painting, but that's hard to do with an artistic pack-rat in situ.
