Ok ok, I dragged myself to work. Don't ask for more. And I've added another random item to my house-to-do list: install a spy-hole in the front door. When someone rings my doorbell at 10pm and won't respond to my request that they identify themself, I don't open the door. But I sure am curious about who it was. (Thinking back, it's odd that I don't recall hearing feet on the steps. I wonder if my wireless doorbell was picking up someone's garage door opener?)

My car's central locking remote zapper thingy used to trigger our neighbour's wireless doorbell. It was very annoying because I had to remember not to use it when parked outside my own garage. Instead I had to fumble for the key and unlock manually.

Interesting. I was tossing out a wild speculation, but it's nice to know it's at least possible. If that is the case, here's hoping my hypothetical neighbor doesn't decide to go for a drive at 3am!

Fortunately the neighbour has now moved and taken his wireless doorbell with him. But I must have been annoying to him because I don't come and go at regular times. Some days I would be setting off early at say 7:45 am and not returning until 10:30 pm. Other days I might not set off until mid-morning.

I used to try to remember not to zap the car, but coming home late and tired, it was such a habit that I'd sometimes forget.

This is precisely the reason we installed a new door.

It's lovely -- but in my neighborhood, I'd prefer something that looks less inviting to sledgehammers. Something that says, "Even if you smash the glass you're still not going to be able to reach the deadbolt." I've always been fond of those medieval-looking grilled spy-doors, but I'm not sure my current door would stand up to the installation.
