Thanks for posting this; it is really thought-provoking and worthwhile. I noticed the same thing going on in the 80s (and probably the late 70s too), and the same sort of groupthink processes have happened elsewhere on the various political spectra since then as well. No wonder so many of my group are disgusted by politics. (Living this close to DC is also a factor, for those of us who have that misfortune.)
