I've decided I'm day-tripping Crown this weekend. Looking at the past few weeks, first I got behind on life preparing for the Games Tourney, then I didn't manage to get stuff sorted out and put away from Games getting ready for the heraldic symposium, and this week if I were getting my act together for an all-weekend campout, I would be failing to get stuff sorted out and put away from both Games and the Symposium. So it's a daytrip for me. Anyone else from the SF/East Bay area want to daytrip Saturday and carpool? (Warning: I tend to leave at ungodly hours of the morning.)

The Heralds' Symposium was delightful. I took Friday off and drove down to LA in the company of [livejournal.com profile] xrian and [livejournal.com profile] scotica. We staged ourselves at [livejournal.com profile] scotica's place Thursday evening to get on the road early. The theory was that leaving at 6am would see us into LA before the traffic got seriously gnarly. This failed to take into account that two miles down the road we discovered that the new tires on [livejournal.com profile] scotica's car had not been properly balanced. Fortunately, just two miles back we had three other automotive options and the hour's delay didn't end up making that much difference in the end.

The Symposium ... ah, well, there is too much to tell. I did an astounding imitation of a social butterfly, particularly at the evening parties. Took in several lectures -- not all of which involved passing snide notes to those sitting beside me. Had adventures finding open restaurants that matched the tastes of the randomly assembled dinner party. Began firming up plans with various An Tirian friends for my road trip later this summer.

On the work front, my tendency to get tapped for the really ugly investigations has been rewarded more materially than simply being given more ugly investigations. One of the big ones I was involved with last year got me a de facto place on the team validating our new cell bank, which means that I was part of the crew hauled up in front of the state-of-the-business meeting today to be handed a "special recognition" desk gew-gaw and an envelope informing me that certain monies would be deposited in my bank account. Haven't decided if I'll splurge on something or sock it away in the new car account. (Yes, yes, having thought that, I know I should sock it away. Sigh. Do I have to be good?)

Sock away half of it (maybe 2/3) and splurge with the rest?

Compromise. Put half of it away, and play with the other half. Keeping in mind your commitment to keeping the clutter down, look for neat or rejuvenating experiences you can have on half the bonus.

Ain't it great? It's all [livejournal.com profile] cadhla's fault... she has a whole set of LiveJournal High School icons in this post, all gankable freely as long as you credit her and let her know you ganked one (or more).
