... that I hate allergies? I don't know what I was planning to get done today, but mostly I did what I've wanted to do for the last several days: lay around on the couch watching movies and sniffling. I can't even tell if the Claritin is making any difference. At least I got a chance to check out the fireplace after installing the additional fiberglass gasket around the lid. No smoking this time (even though I still don't have the new glass for the door) and the thermal curtains closing off the living room seem to be working as designed as well. Yay. Also found a new favorite local coffee shop (excellent baked goods, electrical outlets, free wireless): Sweet Adeline (at the intersection of Adeline and MLK Way. Did some more appetizer development work on the "carrot clumps" but haven't had a chance to complete the taste test because I still can't taste anything. *grrr* *sniff*

FWIW...Claritin did nothing for my rose fever in the spring, but the doctor gave me a prescription for the only remaining "non-drowsy" (hah!) antihistamine that's not over the counter. I can dig up the name if you are interested.

I don't really have allergy attacks often enough for it to be worth getting a prescription. Only a couple times a year. It's just annoying that one can't do a controlled, blind experiment to tell whether a particular medication has any significant effect. My subjective perception is that antihistimines help moderate the immediate symptoms but may well be dragging out the overall process of getting back to normal. The first time I tried Claritin, it seemed like it worked fairly well. This time -- very hard to tell whether it's doing anything. (This is given that the sneezing and nose-running part of the allergy attack rarely lasts more than a couple days anyway, so the fact that it's moved on to being merely horribly congested could be normal progression.) If only I could get a good night's sleep, I wouldn't worry about it at this point.
