And how did we do this weekend?
* Varathane my bench for the Perfectly Period Feast. Done! Including Varathaning the legs for my tourney bed, which should have been done two seasons ago.
* Do the taxes. (Let's schedule this for Sunday ... although there's an Ed Levin Park work party, too, which I'd like to get to.) Not done. (Didn't make it to the work party either.)
* Design, cut out, and sew my overgown for the Perfectly Period Feast. (Probably won't get done -- let's see how good my predictions are.) Sure enough, not done.
* Sew the lacing eyelets on the new doublet for PPF. 2/3 done.
* Re-fit my 15th c. hose, create a new pattern from them, and make new hose to go with the new doublet. Re-fitting done. New hose not yet done.
* Install Leopard on both the Macs. Yeah, right. You didn't really think I'd get to this one did you?
And for the non-list winners: Had
thread_walker draft a pattern for a supportive/fitted gown for me -- something we've had scheduled for a while. Re-set another 12 feet of brick walkway. Did a bunch of misc. pruning and weeding. Started sorting out the paperwork in preparation for doing taxes. Tried to finally get around to canceling my cable subscription but evidently their "24 hour service" phone number doesn't include account cancelations -- although I still had to work my way through the automated system to find that out.
On the food side: This week's experimental produce item is ... okra! (I've eaten okra before, but never prepared it.) Last week's was red carrots but there really wasn't anything to write about. They tasted exactly like orange carrots. And the red pigment was all in the outer layer of skin, so when I scrubbed them before cooking, half of it came off anyway. And I've had my first fish disappointment from Berkeley Bowl (one of the few places I'll buy fish from in the first place). It was a lovely little mackerel, but when I went to gut it, the body nearly fell apart in my hands, suggesting that it wasn't quite as fresh as one might hope for. Still perfectly edible, but a disappointment. I baked it on a bed of sauteed onions with a touch of vinegar and white wine in the pan and a dusting of basil on the underside of the fish.
