I saw a white one of those the other day, and its license plate holder said BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER on it. I thought that was very clever.

Definitely the vehicle of a SCAdian. I bet you can fit A LOT of stuff in there.

Oh yeah, you can. Boy can you ever. 10 boxes of books and a box of to-be-assembled elliptical trainer fit. On another occasion, six boxes of books, and camping gear for two, including pavilion, cots, cooking gear, and two tables for consulting, fit with room to see out the back window.

Ooh, I'm jealous! I like our Forester, but I still kinda wish we had an Element :-)

Sorry about the ambiguity -- the subject line was intended as "no need for me to add further comments in the post! Congratulatory noises are perfectly welcome.

So, what features did you get? What cool toys does it have?

Well, let's see. It doesn't come with a GPS or handsfree-phone system, but I'm looking into getting a Garmin unit that takes care of both functions. It does come with satellite radio capability (and a free 3-month subscription) which I may or may not use. For the more boring features: automatic transmission (but not the 4-wheel drive), AC, cruise control, electronic locks, all those usuals. I've ordered several options that will be installed when they come in: roof rack (which can have other equipment-holding systems attached), between-seat console with lots of storage and additional electric outlet and audio input jack (for the iPod), oh, there's also an audio input and electrical outlet above the glove compartment. I also ordered the "privacy curtain" which wraps around the interior of all the windows, for when you're "camping" in your car (or just changing clothes at the beach or whatnot). I had thought about going ahead and getting a trailer hitch system (since there are some great bike carriers that attach that way, and since I've sometimes thought about acquisitions that might involve a small trailer), but then I remembered the whole obsolete-before-I-used-it thing with Quark and decided that it would be better to wait until I actually had something I wanted to tow before shelling out for the hitch. But, in fact, there's no real need for an external bike rack unless I'm transporting more than two bikes and riders (which, however, I have done at least once), since the back is large enough to fit them inside. I'll see. I mean, it is a cool toy all by itself. What more do you want?
