Just because
Sep. 10th, 2008 09:37 pmA post, because I haven't posted in a few days. Work is being exciting -- two really fun investigations at the same time. This is not necessarily a Good Thing, but in one case I managed to get about 50% of the investigation completed before the case was even officially opened, so for once I'm way ahead of the stopwatch. There are times I wish I could post more detailed descriptions of my investigations. Not that anyone's specifically told me I can't, just that I'd much rather be on the safe side and stick to generalities so as not to even approach any possible boundaries.
I've completed my Action Item for the GLBT committee for the company Diversity Day ... so now I just have to survive sitting through committee meetings where people argue over the proper color for the tablecloth for our display table (and whether the tablecloth will clash with the cupcakes we'll have as giveaways). I mostly sit there practicing not sweating the small stuff. I think the last time I held the line on some point involved proper use of the counterfactual subjunctive on one of our informational posters. Why did I volunteer again? Oh, yeah, right. Advertising.
I once again broke my vow about not volunteering for new projects this year and am writing a book review of a new historic costuming book for Medieval Clothing and Textiles. It was a book I'd already bought this year at Kalamazoo, so why not -- it'd be fun! Oh, and I have to prepare a class on "Recreating Cuisines Without Cookbooks" for the cooking collegium in a week and a half. (Another crack in the vow.) I've offered to do a couple of classes for Fall Collegium, but neither involves significant preparation. And yet ... and yet. I guess I'm actually a complete failure at being able to keep promises to myself.
After the hot weekend, it turned decidedly chilly this week and on a whim I pulled out one of my suit jackets that I've been thinking about giving away. On second thought, I think I could alter it without too much annoyance. Ordinarily I really hate alterations, but I've really been dragging my feet over getting rid of my couple of nice suits. It's a sign. I should keep them and put the effort into cutting them down.
My gym finally has a closing date posted, so I'll be starting at the new place as of the beginning of next month. In the mean time I'm trying to shift my sleep schedule towards getting up earlier in the morning. Maybe by October 1, I'll have shifted sufficiently that getting up for morning workouts will be relatively painless. Among other things, it should improve my average workouts per week slightly. Lately I've been slipping from an average of four days per week to a baseline of four days per week. Every week there seems to be something that gets in the way right after work: a dental appointment, Cal Shakes, a weekend trip. With morning workouts, the only hazard is the desire to sleep longer. Speaking of which ....
