It's hard to believe that this week is the first time this year that I've bicycled out to have my lunch by the bay. Here's my view from lunch (courtesy of my cell-phone-camera):

For those not familiar with the neighborhood, that's the old Berkeley pier heading off on the right with the Marin headlands behind it. Lost in the lack of focus is the Golden Gate bridge, also rising behind it, and Alcatraz island looking as if the pier terminates at it. Coming in from the left is the Bay Bridge, disappearing into Yerba Buena Island, with San Francisco further behind it. This is the "short version" of the lunchtime bike ride. The long version involves going down the bayside bike path from University Ave. (where the pedestrian/bike bridge crosses I-80) south to the Emeryville marina and back, or north to the racetrack and back. Somewhere in there, I find a scenic spot and pull out the lunch bag.

But first there was all that rain (and no bicycle) and then April and May were full of personal projects that took up my lunch hour. It feels almost decadent to not be working on something over lunch.
