Got a call from my erstwhile lawyer today just before I left work. He's aghast. He's contrite. (He's scared.) He's refunding all my money. All. My. Money. Not just the retainer, but everything I paid him. I objected to this, noting that he had, in fact, performed the legal service I'd hired him for and that I was perfectly happy with that service and felt I should pay him a reasonable amount for it. He insisted. (Actually, he may be only refunding me half of what I paid him over the retainer because when he mentioned an amount, it was only that of the amount I'd sent for the second bill. I tried to clarify but we failed to communicate. If he refunds half of his billed amount, I will have paid about what I think the work deserved, so I'm not going to quibble.)

Oh, and he's blaming the whole "mix-up" on the firm he has doing his accounts and billing. Yeah, they're to blame for his failure to respond to my letters for over two months. Right. But my actions seem to have had the desired response. I rock.

Speaking of clutches, the car's in the shop getting one replaced. Also some other work and the usual major service that it was due for. I briefly flirted with the idea of taking the clutch failure as A Sign that it was time for a new car, but the price of getting it fixed is so much lower than what I'd shell out for a new car that I really can't justify it yet. Besides, I haven't gotten the odometer to kick over past 200,000 yet and I'm looking forward to it.

The Pennsic clothing hand-off isn't happening tonight, so I've got a chance of getting the hem trim added (which had become "the task that doesn't need to get finished") before tomorrow's delivery.
