Of carpentry and long-line bras ...
Feb. 6th, 2007 11:10 pmThe phone jack in the living room didn't get moved after all -- it seems that the good folks at AT&T do not consider it within their expertise to move an existing phone jack 6 inches to the right and 4 inches higher. They came, they saw, they said to call an electrician instead. Huh??? The phone company can't do phone wiring any more? I decided just to let it go. It means if something goes wonga with the jack, I'll need to unload the bookshelf and undo the earthquake bolting to move it, but ... oh well. And I made the "bookcase bridge" to elevate the two cases over the trap door. Probably dreadfully over-engineered, but I finally found some use for the force dynamics I learned in physics. So now all the new living room bookshelves are ready for filling and it's just a matter of carrying the books downstairs.

cryptocosm's 50th birthday and since the theme of the mystery is something along the lines of "hollywood glamorous" he suggested that the Infamous Red Silk Gown might come out to play again. (There was this hard-boiled film noir name documentation performed as a reader's theater at a heraldic symposium ... well, maybe you had to be there.) So I pulled it out, although I wasn't sure how well it would make the transition from "costume" to "dress-up". Alas, it seems that the essential foundation garment (long-line strapless bra) is now significantly too large. That's a first. Well, I guess the red dress is out for this weekend.
