Lunch-plan whiplash
Jun. 12th, 2007 01:23 pmIn theory,
thread_walker and I were supposed to do lunch, but she got ambushed by an unexpected meeting and it fell through. Then I got a call from the Ford service department saying that they'd finished the routine service and checked out the overheating issue, and there was a problem with the fan being intermittent, and there were some leaks in the radiator, and something else, and it was looking like a bit over $800. So I told them I needed to think about it because that was pretty much at my threshold for simply moving up the schedule on buying a new car. So I'd bike over and pick it up on my lunch hour. Then two minutes later the guy calls back and says, "Well, if you're comfortable about just checking the fluids regularly, you can get by with just replacing the thingamajig that controls the fan, which is $150." (Ok, he didn't say "thingamajig", but I'm spacing on the right word.) So that was good news, but left me again without lunch plans (and having left my lunch at home because I was supposed to be going out). I actually knew about the whole keeping an eye on the coolant levels thing, because it's been dripping occasionally for some time. So I'll get the car back tomorrow in adequate shape for a road trip, which is good.
