A very pleasant weekend
Mar. 23rd, 2008 10:02 pmCrown Tourney was the sort of event to leave me feeling good about attending more camping events this year. Fine weather, good site, and despite the gear modifications resulting in a slightly larger packing volume (at least until I work on more efficiency) I think I've succeeded in making the packing process itself simpler and faster. And it was rather fun having the new bench as my "front porch" where I could watch the event go by (and got a number of admiring comments on it). I ended up putting in an hour or so working gate Saturday morning after breakfast, then dropped by to help
acanthusleaf set up her booth, then decided to put in a stint at the heraldic consultation table. I did manage to find a guest to invite to dinner almost at the last minute when
the_lady_of_ely turned out to have no other plans. We sat to dine just as the sun dipped below the trees and entertained ourselves by offering tastes of the Small Birds Y-Stewed to passers-by. (I think having a dinner guest also made people more likely to stop and chat over dinner -- another part of my Cunning Plan.) I made a fairly early evening of it and Sunday was mostly meetings and wandering around chatting.
Saturday afternoon when I went back to camp to start cooking I discovered someone had left a rose on the table from the Rose Tournament -- although I don't know if it was a specifically targeted one or just "we've got a bunch of roses left over, we'll spread them around". If the former, it breaks my otherwise perfect record without having a chance to know who was responsible. Although, I confess, this allows me to fantasize that some Noble and Beautiful Lady in Shining Armor has admired me from afar but, too shy to approach me directly, has bashed someone in the head in my honor in order to win for me a rose.
