Saturday

Ended up not bringing CH as the post-it note on her door said the allergies looked more like a cold and she didn't want to infect. I got down to the hotel in time for Marty Fabish's performance workshop. I'm always interested in workshops even if I don't find the specific topics applicable since I'm always interested in how other people teach and present things. After that, a brief turn around the dealers' room (picked up 3 CDs -- nothing new: Broceliande's Autumn theme album, Erica Neely's "Not Everybody Dies", and the CD re-issue of Julia Ecklar's "Traveller"). After that was the memorial sing for Cynthia McQuillin. It was a nicely cathartic program (in a mostly unprogrammed way, of course). I contributed my "Cats in the Dawn" which Cindy had put on her "Bedlam Cats" album and which she had properly understood to be essentially tragic under the humor. All through the session I kept hoping that we'd finish up with "Black Davy's Ride", and fortunately that had been the plan all along.

Concerts, concerts, concerts, interfilk auction. What can I say? I enjoy concerts while I'm listening to them but I can no more remember specifics afterwards than I can remember the names of students from years past. I slipped out of the auction because I was starving (having not had lunch) and headed for my favorite local sushi restaurant where by chance (just like last year, and maybe the year before -- I forget) I ran into the proprietors of DAG and joined them for dinner. We've tentatively decided to actually plan having Saturday dinner together next year since it seems to be a tradition.

After dinner there was the "surprise" concert by Erica Neely (who'd been on the program under a pseudonym evidently to avoid tipping the GoHs off that she was coming). Then Bill & Gretchen Roper closed out the concerts with the GoH slot. This meant we actually got to open filking before midnight -- something that's become rather unusual lately. I dragged the harp off to the "Spooky" theme circle, being headed by one of the members of Puzzlebox, which got rolling fairly promptly and had a number of fun performances. Once again I found that an applicable theme meant that I actually dragged out a couple of songs, although I wimped out on doing the harp accompaniment for "The Two of Us" since I know I'm so out of practice on it that it would be distracting.
Off to head home at half past midnight.
