So the primary reason I'm going off to the West-An Tir War this year is the promise of an entire long weekend of Medieval Cooks' Playdate. Thus it behooves me to do a bit of advance planning, since the current version of my standard camp kitchen isn't quite as exhaustively stocked as some past versions have been. My current plan is to work from a different cookbook each day and take the chance to do some dishes that don't work as well for advance cooking. (The various fritters I did for Mists Coronet are the sort of thing I have in mind -- stuff that is at its best when you accost passers by to taste it.)

I'm currently looking at working from Anthimus (although I'm not sure I can get a whole day's worth of fun out of it, since relatively few of the dishes are complex), Sent Sovi, and either Forme of Curye or Two 15th c. Cookbooks.

Interesting. In thinking about what sorts of recipes I'd want to do, I'm leaning strongly towards ones that involve a fair amount of "process" as opposed to thinking in terms of taste or overall meal balance. Which only makes sense. But it means that I'm rethinking whether to cook from Anthimus given how simple most of the dishes are. Not a problem, since I've tagged about 40 possibilities in the other books that look fun. Now to figure out a shopping list that gives me the greatest flexibility and coverage among those dishes without necessarily committing me to a specific set.
