For those who like taking all those amusing little quiz memes, try this quiz on U.S. civics issues that I ran across via Daily Kos. I'm rather proud to have gotten 32 out of 33 questions right (and the one I missed was because I accidentally second-guessed myself ... but on the other hand, some of the ones I got right were because I'm good at analyzing multiple choice questions). You won't get clever results to post in your journal, but you can find out how you stack up against the average respondent in their original survey.

Yeah, multiple-choice skill definitely helps. Which one did you manage to miss? I note #7 is misquoted (which gave me a moment of pause), and there seems to be just a bit of political bias in the economics questions.

I agree with the bias on the economics -- there were several where I didn't feel like they even offered a correct answer. I missed -- I think it was #10? -- the one on rights included in the 1st amendment, because I was trying to remember whether there was an explicit "freedom of religion" or whether that was covered by the non-establishment bit, so I went for "due process" instead.

Mm. It's a bit fuzzy, because the 1st amendment doesn't actually refer to 'freedom of religion' as such. Instead we have the 'establishment' clause and the 'free exercise' clause. It makes it easier if you know that the other three topics are found elsewhere. (And only the true law geeks are going to worry about how you really need to throw in the 14th amendment to cover yourself against the state and local authorities.)

I also have to take issue with the bias shown in the economic questions, and really some of those questions to me don't even feel like civics issues...

I also got 32 -- I missed #7 (but can't claim the misquoting as the culprit, since I don't think I actually read the quote beyond the first few words but rather filled it in myself)

And agree with everybody about the economics questions. (No wonder the original subject group only got 49%!
