Phone mystery solved
Feb. 3rd, 2009 06:34 pmWell the answer on the lack of phone signal appears to have been some sort of software glitch in the phone. As my second round of troubleshooting (Round #1 being "ignore it for a day and see if the problem goes away") I restored factory settings to the iPhone and then reloaded the programs and files (which is, fortunately, trivially easy). So, in the jargon of my job, I may not have Root Cause, but I've achieved Corrective Action.
(For those following along on the Geek-off challenge, my co-worker countered my "thanked for my research in the preface to a fantasy novel" with "had a game module that he developed incorporated by the game creator into a commercial video game". Nicely parallel -- I had physical evidence, but will admit that it would have been impossible for him to provide direct evidence in the office. We didn't get a clear judgement from the review board, although I think I had the edge. I have an idea for tomorrow but will need to climb up into the attic to retrieve it, so it's good that I have several backups.)
