Last year was the first time that I skipped Consonance since the convention began and it took a significant act of willpower and pre-planning not to cave at the last minute and attend, expecting against logic and experience that things would somehow be different. This year, a passing post reminded me last week that it was coming up and I only felt a momentary twinge. I imagine it's the sort of twinge one might feel years after a divorce when the date of the wedding anniversary came around. Wistful, envious, but no longer sad.

We missed you there, anyway. Our first Consonance in six years, but I can certainly understand how it has become no longer something for you. I don't think either of us were surprised when the new management increased the emphasis on concerts.

I imagine I'll be feeling something similar this Easter: the first one since 1991 that won't see me at Rowany Festival for even a day. They moved to a new site, six hours away instead of the previous furthest of three and a half, with muddy conditions and a dubious escape plan should the flood-plain flood. Just not worth it any more; all the familiar people are boring, all the new ones are clueless... I guess I'm getting old.
