I will not complain about rain. I will not complain about rain. I will not complain about rain.

There, that's for the weather gods.

Actually, it was only really drizzling when I set up Friday night, and by luck or planning my standard packing system leaves all the tent bits on top, so I was able to set up and then unload everything else directly into the tent. The tent is wonderfully waterproof and the temperature was mild, so from that point on the weather was simply an excuse to enjoy having proper medieval clothing. The pattens for the new shoes kept my feet dry all weekend, the combination of gothic underdress and revised "party" dress (which I may start referring to as the "grave-slab dress", since that's where my original inspiration came from) kept me more than warm, and a wool cloak overall kept everything else dry.

It was a small, cozy event thanks to the rain. Court, [livejournal.com profile] vittoriosa's presentation on music theory (with delicious sideboard), coronation (which I confess I skipped in favor of good conversation), meetings meetings and more meetings, dinner with the Company of S. Theresa, conversation and emu-watching, sleep, and then a lazy Sunday morning arranging things to dry as best they could until time for closing court.

Ah, yes, the emu. So the event is held on a sheep ranch where they also run some llamas and emus. Normally the livestock are all herded off to another part of the property when we rent the site, but there was one recalcitrant emu that simply wanted to share the SCA experience. It wandered around on the list field during the afternoon Saturday, took in the tail end of the Bard of the West competition in the evening, and hung out in the royal pavilion during the evening partying until it decided to settle down and go to sleep right there in front of the thrones for the night. A new metaphor: there is a difference between simply dealing with the fact that you have an emu at your medieval event ... and going out and renting an emu to bring to your medieval event.
