Sigh (Freecycle annoyance version)

Alas, when I blew off etaine_pommier's sewing night for a Freecycle pickup, I was not aware that the Freecycler's "Tuesday" actually meant "Wednesday", however I have now been informed that "Wednesday" now means "whenever she can find someone to help with the furniture wrangling". I got the feeling that she was hoping I'd offer to do all the furniture wrangling on her end as well as mine (including removing her current bed to make room for the one she's taking off my hands) but I've been practicing having boundaries lately and somehow failed to volunteer to do so. I told her that if she hadn't taken receipt of my bed by the end of the weekend, I'd have to re-list it. The bed is currently taking up space in the living room, where I'd staged it to be ready to load into the Element, so at least it won't be in the way for carpet-ripping, spackling, and painting. It will, however, be in the way for temporarily moving other stuff out of the bedroom, so I guess I'll have to tote things upstairs to the dining room instead.

Dear universe, when you call dibs on a Freecycle item, be prepared to take it immediately or you'll break the system.

Sounds fair to me--it's not as if she has to travel a vast distance to get to you (Freecycle being all about local community support) :->

I had a similar experience with Freecycle, but you are far more tolerant than I. My futon ended up getting a nice home with the Salvation Army.

I've had plenty of happy Freecycle experiences -- even when I had to do face-to-face handover or delivery. That doesn't make the annoying ones less annoying, but it makes me inclined to continue trying.
